I have decided to take part in the 29 Faces Challenge for the month of February. For those of you who aren't familiar with 29 Faces, it is a challenge where you create 1 face a day for 29 days. Very easy! You can find out all the details and how to participate here.
As a lot of you know I don't usually create faces or portraits but it is something that I have wanted to pursue more in my artwork for a while now. That is why I thought that the 29 Faces Challenge would be a perfect way to kick start this for me! Here are the faces I have created this first week. Some are very simple line drawings or pencil sketches and others are more complete paintings. I have enjoyed the process and ritual of creating a face each day and I have been pleasantly surprised by what appeared on the pages in front of me.
I love how they are all so different! I am going to pick a favourite each week, just for fun (even though it is kind of difficult to choose to be honest) so this week I pick Day 7. I drew this woman's face with my right hand (which is my "wrong" hand) using a charcoal pencil and I then shaded the entire face using black watercolour.
Do you have a favourite? I'd love to know which one you would pick and why. Leave a comment and let me know :)

Wow, for someone not used to faces they are great - and I have been at it 2 years! Very unfair of you to ask us to choose a favourite, but I agree with you I like the last one the best.
ReplyDeleteAw you are so kind, thank you! Yeah day 7 surprised me a lot seen as it was done with my "wrong" hand.
DeleteI love face 1 and face 6, they are my favorite!!! Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandra! I love to hear people's feedback. :)

Thank you Erika! Yeah I agree day 1 has a sneaky expression!
DeleteI particularly like the one from day 5 - lovely bold colours.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tracy, I used one of those new Liquitex markers to sketch out that face on top of a piece of gelli print :)

DeleteBeautiful faces, I love the different textures and patterns you've created on each face. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of them too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lucy! I will be posting my next "batch" (lol) day 8-14 on Saturday so be sure to check in then ;) Are you also taking part in 29 faces?
DeleteDay 6 reminds me of the girl who shares a room with Uhura in the Star Trek film. My favourite is day 5 because she looks amused by something.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I have to admit my knowledge of Star Trek is pretty pure, Andrea, I will have to check that out though.
DeleteYes I suppose she does look a bit cheeky doesn't she?!
oops I meant to say "poor" not "pure"...
ReplyDeleteFabulous faces! I love seeing the drawing done on mixed media backgrounds.
